Using Photography as Reflections of Self (CEC) – Cellphones, smartphones, and screens have become a center of attention of present-day. Electronic media has become a significant means of communication, socialization, and a popular approach for self-expression. Many are consciously and unconsciously preoccupied with self-image, which reflects our personal, social, and professional identity, self-esteem, and confidence; statements about who we are. Selfies and images are being used to define, communicate, and convey to the outer world information about who we are and how we wish to be perceived. This has become an ongoing, ever-changing, dynamic social interaction, based almost entirely on visual dialogs. Photography can be used in therapy to precipitate therapeutic discussions about self, self-image, relationships, beliefs, feelings, and other topics and levels of the iceberg which preoccupy clients. The images can reflect the internal Self experience. Viewing, photographing, posing, editing, creating photo albums can be used in various ways in therapy to explore relevant therapeutic topics, raising awareness of what lies beneath the surface, helping clients access unconscious information, to achieve therapeutic goals. Photography in therapy can be used with all ages, individuals, couples, families, and groups. It brings up little resistance and provides an easy doorway to our inner world.
This workshop explores basic ideas of Phototherapy, and ways it corresponds with the Satir Model. The workshop offers experiential interventions for making contact, developing therapeutic conversations, addressing issues of self-image, self-esteem, personal, and interpersonal identity. There is no need for prior photography knowledge.

Theory and Practice of Validation in Satir Coaching and Mentoring (CEC) – Validation is crucial in therapy for several reasons. This validation encourages clients to express themselves honestly and openly, promoting a more productive therapeutic process. Virginia Satir describes the power of validation in her quote, “I believe the greatest gift I can conceive of having from anyone is to be seen by them, heard by them, to be understood and touched by them. The greatest gift I can give is to see, hear, understand and to touch another person. When this is done I feel contact has been made.” Satir Coaching and Mentoring, validation is the second of six steps in working with people. We will illustrate the power of validation from the theoretical concept of neuroscience and attachment and will engage workshop participants in practicing validation. Founder of Satir Coaching and Mentoring project, Sharon Loeschen elicits three essential skills of reflecting feelings, affirming values, and highlighting resources in the phase of validation. In this experiential workshop we will illustrate how these skills apply to our work with people by building a secure base and trust relationship between the coaches and coach. When this relationship has been established, subsequent phases of the coaching process of promoting awareness, facilitating acceptance, and creating and sustaining change can more effectively be implemented.
