The Satir Process describes Virginia Satir’s helping process as having six core phases:

• Making Contact
• Validating
• Facilitating Awareness
• Promoting Acceptance
• Making Changes
• Reinforcing Changes.

It also describes the skills that she used within each phase, along with examples of how she would use that skill with an individual, couple and family.
