Honoring the Life of Joan Herrick-Hansen, Our Living Treasure

Joan passed on July 21st and she was one of Virginia’s closest friends. She will be deeply missed.

Joan was a clinical social worker and researcher and she and Virginia met at the famous Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, California where she was involved in conducting research in family dynamics with Jay Haley, Gregory Bateson, Paul Watzlawick and Fred Ford.

After being at MRI she developed a private practice in Palo Alto, California, was a member of the teaching staff in the Stanford University Department of Psychiatry and was in partnership with Fred Ford in Berkley.

We are deeply appreciative to Joan for her support of both Satir Global and IHLRN over all these years.
Up until just this past year, she has been on the Satir Global nominating committee for many years along with Diana Hall, faithfully counting the election results each year.

She also was a huge supporter of IHLRN, attending regularly until her health did not permit it.

We will miss her wonderful Spirit!
