XXII World Family Therapy Congress Technology, Families and Effective Therapy
The 22nd World Family Therapy Congress will be held 5 – 8 March 2014 in Panama City, Panama. We invite you to join colleagues from around the world at the Congress Hotel, the Hard Rock Hotel, a five-star hotel in the heart of Panama City.
The 2014 Congress has as its theme, Technology, Families and Effective Therapy. The Congress will focus on how technology impacts families, and, as a result, how it impacts therapists and supervision. The Congress will feature many approaches to a variety of problems and ways of coping with them. The congress aims to help heal hurting couples and families in various cultures.
The International Family Therapy Association was an outgrowth of the East-West Bridging Congress conducted in Prague in 1987. Since that time, IFTA’s goal has been the same: Advancing family therapy worldwide by promoting research, education, and sound practice while promoting international cooperation and the exchange of knowledge and ideas that support the health and well-being of families and persons around the world.
Institute for International Connections in Thailand
Join IIC in Thailand, October 25-November 9, 2013, for a unique experience that other trips cannot offer. Come and participate in two workshops, one in Bangkok and the other in the southern part of the country. You will meet Thai people on a deep level, as they share their stories and feelings, and you share yours. The workshops will be led by Dr. Laura Dodson, President of the Institute for International Connections (IIC), and Maureen Graves, both talented presenters of Virginia Satir’s work. They will be joined by our Thai partner, Dr. Tipawandee Emavardhana (Tipa).
You will have some time to explore the wonders of Bangkok as well as several days in the south for touring.
For over 20 years our Thai psychologist colleagues, Dr. Tipawadee Emavardhana and Dr. Ladda Kitivipart and their partners in several health education institutions have been drawing on the work of Virginia Satir and other Western psychologists and using it along with Thai Buddhist approaches of understanding and healing. In the last two years, six workshops and a year-long certificate program have been conducted by our Thai friends and co-led by a number of IIC and Satir Global members (Laura Dodson, Maureen Graves, Sharon Loeschen, Russell Haber, Richard Hoffman, Roger Harmon and others). Through the years of on-going work and the focused effort of the last two years, Thai participants have developed a critical mass of understanding and skill. We are deepening and expanding this work and welcome your involvement.
This is important work and much needed. Thailand is still beautiful and smiling, but the country is facing challenges. Change is accelerating politically, socially, and economically. Thais are feeling the impact in their personal relationships, in stresses in their institutions and in regional conflicts, especially in the South. Learning how to deal with these stresses peacefully is essential.
Your participation will be valuable. You will receive a lot of smiles, deep connection, and delight! Please join us. For more information, contact Jeanne Reock, firstname.lastname@example.org.
